Backyard Gardening
The conventional "Backyard Garden" has been around for thousands of years. Before refrigerators, coolers and over the road trucking were ever dreamed of, households maintained a plot of ground to provide fruits and vegetables from their own backyard.
If you have the space, backyard gardening provides fresh produce that is far superior to that which is available in your local grocery store. Product can be picked at it's peak of flavor, and with no transportation miles to contend with, you can be assured that you have the freshest and most nutritional fruits and vegetables that are available.
There are many types of Gardening including, Hydroponic, Container, Raised bed, Square Foot, etc., but the common activities among all types of gardening (including Backyard Gardening) are:
- Planning
- Preparation
- Planting
- Watering
- Providing nutrition
- Harvest
Certainly each type of gardening has it's own nuances around each of the activities listed above, but if you fully understand each of these core activites (and if the weather cooperates), you will have a successful garden.
