Locavore Network Quick Guide

Locavore Network is designed to connect growers and producers of locally grown product with consumers who want to buy that product.  All names, product, companies and services are indexed and searchable via the Search Box located in the upper right hand corner of your screen. When entering any data or creating content on the site it is essential that you have everything spelled correctly, otherwise the database will not be able to cross reference or index your information. When entering search terms, there is no need to use "connecting" words such as "and", "in", "with, etc.

So let's take a look at the basic functions of the website.

Site Navigation
The Primary Menu is the Horizontal menu across the top of the page and contains “Site wide” choices.  Clicking on any of these menu choices will drop down more choices that are related to the Menu Item.

The menu in the Left Column contains choices that are more personalized. Items such as access to your account, Sign In and Log Out, your choices for creating content and …. are all located in this menu. As an authorized user on the site, you can update your Profile and create new Forum Topics and Classified Ads. The ability to create either of these items is found by clicking on “Content” located in the left Column.

Of course you can always use the “back” button or click on an item in the “bread crumb” trail or use your web browser’s back button to go back to previously visited pages.

Searching Locavore Network
The most powerful tool on our website is the Search Box located in the upper right corner of the webpage.

The search function on Locavore Network will look for any content that is posted in forums, articles, profiles, picture captions, web pages or Spotlight Pages. Let’s say you want to find local apple growers. By entering the word “Apple”, along with your Zip Code, State name, County name or even a particular variety, the results will come back in a screen that lists all pages that contain the words that you entered in the Search Box. You must separate the search terms with a comma. Clicking on the hyperlink from the returned search will take you directly to that page.

If you would prefer to see a table listing of all growers in your State, click on the State Information menu choice (in the top menu) and then click on the box containing information for your state. The dropdown menu will show you two choices, one for an Availability Guide and one for a list of all growers for your state that are registered on Locavore network. Click on the menu choice that says Fruit and Vegetable Growers and you will get a listing of growers in your State with links to their information. Additionally, you can search for a particular item by entering the name in one of the provided search boxes.

If you would like to find all growers, producers, wineries, etc within a certain number of miles from you, then use our Promity search. You may enter your State name, City name OR Zip code into the Zip code box, then enter the number of miles that you would like to search within. You will be shown a map with icons representing each business that met your search criteria. Click on the icon to see more information, then click on the business name to see the Profile.

Spotlight Pages are essentially a single page website that contains contact information, pictures, video, Google maps, business description, an availability calendar and much more information than the default Profile contains. Growers can tell you what they have available today or this weekend, where they will be selling it or what happened to their crop after a storm passed through. Spotlight pages function as a direct communication between a grower and his or her customers and can be updated as often as the Grower feels it is necessary.

Just like all other information on our site, you can find Spotlight pages by using several different methods. You could enter the words ”Spotlight Page” then a zip code or State name to see all Spotlight pages within a geographic area. If you are looking for a Spotlight Page for a specific grower you could key in the growers name and the term "Spotlight Page”, or if you want to see all Washington apple grower’s Spotlight pages, you would enter “Washington” “Apples” and “Spotlight Page”. Additionally, when you go to a State Information page, then select the menu choice for “All Growers”, those with Spotlight Pages have a Gold Star next to the link with their business name.
